System structure
A primer must be used for the following substrates:
Substrate | Primer |
Absorbent substrate (cement screed, gypsum, lime plaster or anhydrite screed) | Sikafloor®-01 Primer (1:3) Sikafloor®-03 Primer |
Non- or moderately absorbent substrate (old ceramic tile floors, PVC, linoleum and old vinyl floors) | Sikafloor®-01 Primer Sikafloor®-02 Primer |
(1:3) is the ratio of primer to water (primer:water)

Consumption
Consumption always depends on the surface profile and roughness of the substrate, and on the application technique (single spreading on the substrate / floating method, and double spreading on the substrate and the back of the tile / buttering method). As a guide:
| Tile size | Notched trowel size | Consumption |
| Small | 6 mm | ~ 1,7 kg/m² |
| Medium | 8 mm | ~ 2,2 kg/m² |
| Large | 10 mm | ~ 2,7 kg/m² |
Consumption data are theoretical and do not account for additional material due to surface porosity, surface profile, level differences, waste or other variations. Apply the product to a test area to determine the exact consumption for the specific substrate, conditions and proposed application equipment.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
EQUIPMENT
Choose the most suitable equipment required for the project:
Substrate preparation equipment
- Grinding equipment
- Sanding equipment
- Pressure washer
- Sandblaster
Mixing equipment
- Low-speed electric mixer with single or double spiral paddle (600 rpm)
Application equipment
- Notched trowel
MIXING
IMPORTANT
Avoid over-mixing to prevent air entrapment.
Note: do not mix more material than you can use within 60 minutes.
Requirement: use a low-speed electric mixer (600 rpm) with double spiral paddles.
1. Pour the required amount of clean cold water into a clean mixing bucket.
2. Gradually add the SikaCeram®-295 StarS2 powder to the water while mixing.
3. Mix thoroughly until an evenly coloured, smooth mix is achieved.
4. Stop mixing for 2-3 minutes to let the product "mature".
5. Mix again for ~30 seconds.
APPLICATION
IMPORTANT
Apply enough adhesive to ensure the back of the tiles is properly "wetted".
IMPORTANT
Coverage on the back of the tiles must be 100%.
IMPORTANT
Tiling must be done on freshly applied adhesive. Apply enough pressure to guarantee 100% full and even contact with the adhesive for optimal adhesion.
IMPORTANT
If a skin forms on the surface of the adhesive, remove this layer immediately with a trowel, discard the material and apply a new layer of SikaCeram®-295 StarS2.
Note: SikaCeram®-295 StarS2 is suitable for laying absorbent or non-absorbent tiles indoors, without any limits on size or support.
Note: for tiles > 900 cm² (30 x 30 cm), double spreading (buttering) is always recommended.
Applying adhesive
- Apply enough adhesive to the prepared fixing surfaces with the notched trowel to the required thickness.
- Adjust the tiles if necessary.
- Remove excess adhesive from the tile surface and joints before the adhesive has dried.
CLEANING TOOLS
Clean all tools and equipment thoroughly with water before the product hardens, preferably immediately after use. Once hardened, the product can only be removed mechanically.
