Description
Clear permanent wet look for wooden floors or as a top coat.
Hardwax-Oil Original for wooden floors
Osmo Hardwax-Oil Original Clear is a product based on oil and wax, which creates a protective surface after treatment. It gives the wooden floor a very natural look, as the product enhances the colour of the wood. Wetting the untreated wood gives you an impression of the look after treatment with Hardwax-Oil. After treatment, a permanent wet look is created. This applies when only Hardwax-Oil Original Clear is used. If you first apply a colour and then a clear coat, no wet-look effect is created. The combination of wax and oil for wooden floors is also highly suitable for wooden furniture. After treatment with Osmo Hardwax-Oil Original, the surface is protected against all kinds of liquids such as water, beer and cola. Another advantage is that it can be spot-repaired, and once dry it is not harmful to people, animals or plants. Suitable for the following wood species: oak, beech, maple, birch, ash, larch and many other species. Check under documents whether your wood species is suitable for treatment with Hardwax-Oil. There are four variants of Hardwax-Oil Original: gloss, satin, semi-matt and matt.
Osmo Hardwax-Oil gloss (Osmo 3011)
Hardwax-Oil 3011 gloss gives a glossy surface. This variant has the most sheen of all Hardwax-Oils. It is applied to floors, but also to epoxy tables, for example.
Osmo Hardwax-Oil satin (Osmo 3032)
Osmo 3032 dries to a satin finish, meaning the product still has quite some sheen but is less glossy than 3011. Osmo 3032 is mainly applied to wooden floors, but also to furniture surfaces.
Osmo Hardwax-Oil semi-matt (Osmo 3065)
Osmo 3065 is slightly more matt than Osmo 3032, so this variant has less sheen. In terms of gloss level, Osmo 3065 sits between satin and matt, making it a great choice if you cannot decide between the two.
Osmo Hardwax-Oil matt (Osmo 3062)
Osmo 3062 is the most matt version of Hardwax-Oil, with no sheen. Because it has no sheen, it contains a small amount of white matting agent, which may cause a slight white haze on dark surfaces. On dark substrates and tropical hardwoods, therefore do not apply 3062 matt but choose, for example, 3065 semi-matt.
Two-coat system
Hardwax-Oil uses a two-coat system: the first coat is fully absorbed into the wood, the second hardens in the upper pores of the wood. We therefore always advise applying two coats of Hardwax-Oil.
You can also choose to treat the first coat with a coloured Osmo product, such as Hardwax-Oil Tints, Decor Wax or Oil Stain, and finish with Hardwax-Oil Original as the top coat.
After applying one coat of Hardwax-Oil Tints or Effect Natural, one coat of Hardwax-Oil Original is sufficient. If the wooden surface is buffed with one coat of Decor Wax or Oil Stain, apply two more coats of Hardwax-Oil Original with a roller or brush. If two coats of those products are buffed in, one coat of Hardwax-Oil Original is enough for good surface protection.
Untreated look
For an untreated look on light wood species such as oak, consider Hardwax-Oil Effect Natural 3041. It contains a small amount of white pigment that keeps light woods light in colour. As a second coat, apply Hardwax-Oil Original Clear for good surface protection. Watch the video about treating an oak floor here, showing the combination of 3041 plus Hardwax-Oil Original Clear. This gives a lighter look than applying two coats of Hardwax-Oil Original.
Hardwax-Oil Original benefits
Hardwax-Oil is the ideal oil for wooden floors. It is easy to apply and maintain. This floor oil is also highly durable, resistant to saliva and sweat, suitable for children's toys, resistant to coffee, beer and wine, spot-repairable and, once dry, not harmful to people, animals or plants. Once fully dry it is odourless, with a mild smell during drying.
Note: For surfaces already treated with Osmo or another brand or product, always do a test first. For renovation, we always advise applying a maximum of one coat. If more coats are applied, the second coat may not adhere and can easily be scratched off. The FAQ explains how to carry out a test.
Please note: Cloths used to apply or buff off Hardwax-Oil must be rinsed with water because they carry a risk of spontaneous combustion. Always rinse cloths with water before throwing them in the bin.
Sand for an even result. Always test first in an inconspicuous place.
1. Stir the product well for 2 minutes.
2. Apply the first coat thinly with a microfibre roller or brush, along the wood grain.
3. Mistakes can be corrected for up to 30 minutes.
4. Drying time first coat: 8-10 hours.
5. Apply the second coat in the same way and let it dry for 8-10 hours.
After treatment with Osmo Hardwax-Oil, it is important to maintain the floor. This ensures you enjoy your wooden floor for longer.
Wisch-Fix is the product to mop and clean your wooden floor. It contains a small amount of wax that nourishes the floor. We recommend using it weekly or every two weeks.
Over time, walkways and frequently used areas of the surface may start to wear. Liquid Wax Cleaner is then ideal to use. The product is suitable for refreshing worn areas.
