Description
Osmo Decking Oil: get your terrace or decking ready for summer
Osmo Decking Oil is a product based on oils and waxes that creates a protected surface after treatment. The surface is then resistant to water, dirt and the sun.
The treatment is ideal for protecting wooden terraces, decking and fences. Osmo Decking Oil can be used on most wood species, such as Afrormosia, Bangkirai, Douglas fir, spruce, teak and larch.
Please note: the minimum application temperature is 10 °C.
Decking Oil colours
There are 10 different Decking Oil colours in total. Hesitating between a few colours? We have samples of every colour available, so you can test on a small piece of wood which colour gives the result you want.
The colours relate to the colours of the wood species they are named after. This does not mean they are only intended for that type of wood.
Osmo tip: Decking Oils with colour pigment offer better protection against UV radiation from the sun (greying). The clear variant 007 offers less protection against UV rays.
Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil
As a third coat, you can choose to use Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil. This variant is suitable for outdoor wooden terraces and stairs. Apply the Anti-Slip Decking Oil over the 2 coats of Decking Oil to create an anti-slip surface.
Removing grey from a terrace or decking
Has the wood of your terrace or decking turned grey? Then we recommend first treating it with Osmo Power-Gel Wood Reviver, which brings back the natural colour of the wood. Once dry, the terrace can be treated with a Decking Oil of your choice. We advise waiting 24 hours.
Please note:
- Building a new terrace or decking? Then the wood may have a maximum moisture content of 20%.
- Rough, old or wood that has been outside untreated often absorbs more product, so more Decking Oil is needed than recommended.
- For new wood, we advise letting it weather for at least 4 to 6 weeks first. This makes the wood more resistant to the outdoor climate. After weathering, the wood can be de-greyed with Osmo Power-Gel Wood Reviver.
Maintenance
After treatment with Osmo Decking Oil, it is important to maintain the wood well. Osmo Decking Cleaner is the product to clean your terrace, decking or fence. We recommend using it in spring and autumn.
1. Stir the product well for 2 minutes. After opening the tin, the oil and wax are separated. Always test on the surface first to check that the result has the desired effect.
2. Apply the first coat of Hardwax-Oil Effect very thinly with a roller or floor brush to the new or sanded wood. Make sure the product is rolled out well, otherwise the surface will show lap marks. Make sure every part of the wood is covered with the product.
3. Mistakes made during application can be corrected on the wet surface up to 30 minutes afterwards, such as roller marks or brush hairs.
4. Drying of the first coat takes about 24 hours (at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity). At lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying takes longer. Always ensure good ventilation, with windows and doors open.
5. If desired, the dried coat can be lightly sanded with fine sandpaper (400 grit) or a scotch pad.
6. Apply the second finishing coat thinly with Hardwax-Oil Original Clear, also with the Osmo microfibre roller or floor brush.
7. Drying of the second coat in approx. 8-12 hours; see point 4.
1. Stir the product well for 2 minutes. After opening the tin, the oil and wax are separated. Always test on the surface first to check that the result has the desired effect.
2. Buff the first coat of 3041 onto the new or sanded wood with a white pad or lint-free cloth, along the wood grain.
3. Within 20 minutes, buff the Hardwax-Oil Natural dry with the fleece pad or a lint-free cloth, also along the wood grain. This ensures an even look and prevents too much product being applied.
4. Mistakes made during application can be corrected on the wet surface up to 30 minutes afterwards, such as roller marks or brush hairs.
5. Drying of the first coat takes about 8-10 hours (at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity). At lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying takes longer. Always ensure good ventilation, with windows and doors open.
6. Apply the second and third finishing coats thinly with Hardwax-Oil Original Clear, using the Osmo microfibre roller or floor brush.
7. Drying of Hardwax-Oil Original Clear takes about 8-10 hours.
If you buff the surface, apply two more coats of Hardwax-Oil Original Clear to protect the wood. Buffing one coat of Hardwax-Oil Natural 3044 applies less white pigment, so the wood will be less light in colour.
