Description
Osmo Weathering Stain – Give your wood a modern natural look
A grey, matt wood stain based on natural oils to pre-grey any outdoor wood species (also called patinating). Weathering Stain instantly creates an even silver-grey colour on terraces, cladding, fences or garden furniture without waiting years. Available in 4 shades of grey. After 2 coats, the wood is well protected against UV radiation, mould and deposits.
Osmo, a unique oil-stain combination
Osmo creates a microporous surface that lets the wood breathe and reduces swelling and shrinking. After treatment, the surface is water-repellent, extremely weather-resistant and UV-stable. It does not crack, flake or peel. No sanding is needed before, during or after; simply apply directly to a clean substrate. Easy and seamless to apply, and the stain stays workable during application. Osmo outdoor products contain active ingredients that protect the surface against mould, algae and rot, proven for decades in extreme climates.
If the wood is very absorbent, you can choose Osmo Wood Impregnation WR Aqua 4019. Wood impregnation penetrates deep into the surface, saturating it more and protecting it even better against moisture.
- The wooden surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (max. 20% wood moisture). Osmo Weathering Stain is ready to use; do not thin. Stir thoroughly. If possible, apply the first coat to all sides of the wood before installation. Clean old open-pore coatings thoroughly. Old paint and varnish layers must be completely removed.
- The appearance and adhesion of our products may vary by wood species, surface and application method. We therefore recommend testing products on a sample first.
Application
- Stir the product well for 2 minutes. After opening the tin, the oil and wax are separated.
- Apply the first coat of Weathering Stain very thinly with a brush or microfibre roller to the new, planed or sanded wood.
- Drying of the first coat takes about 4-6 hours. At lower temperatures or higher humidity, drying takes longer. Are the surfaces treated indoors first? Then always ensure good ventilation by opening windows and doors.
- Apply the second coat in the same way as the first coat.
- Completely dry after approx. 12 hours;
Tip: Mistakes made during application can be corrected up to 15 minutes afterwards, such as brush hairs or lap marks.
Please note: Many wood species contain water-soluble coloured extractives that can leach out naturally during weathering. If the wood is not properly weathered, it may not take on the colour evenly. Leave wood with a high extractive content outside for a few weeks to months first to let it leach out.
- For maintenance, it is important to remove dirt and algae with Decking Cleaner or Power-Gel.
- After cleaning, you can apply 1 coat of the colour used to the surface.
- Let it dry for 4 to 6 hours.
