The family business

From carpentry workshop to European flooring specialist

In 1959 carpenter Otger ter Hürne started his own business in Südlohn, in Germany's Münsterland. That passion for wood grew into one of Europe's leading parquet and flooring manufacturers, with around 300 employees today.

Where the very first workshop once stood is now Raum 1, the showroom and knowledge centre for trade partners. In 2024 ter Hürne invested more than 6.5 million euros in new production technology for wooden floors.

Independently tested, demonstrably healthy

ter Hürne does not rely on its own promises, but on independent institutes. For twenty years the company has had its floors tested by eco-INSTITUT, long before that label was known to consumers.

eco-INSTITUT

Testing of the entire production process and all ingredients for plasticisers, heavy metals, pesticides, harmful gases and odours.

Blue Angel & VOC A+

The German government label for low-emission products and the highest French class for indoor air quality.

Safe for children

The Nature Protec OLIO finish is free of benzophenone and monomers, resistant to saliva and sweat (DIN 53160) and suitable for children's toys (EN 71-3).

No heavy metals

Wood is not treated with heavy metals or ammonia compounds, so it keeps its natural properties.

PEFC & FSC®

ter Hürne is a PEFC and FSC® certified company: the wood comes from sustainably managed forests.

EPD & CARB 2

Environmental product declarations covering the whole life cycle, and compliant with the strict Californian air quality standard.

A natural climate regulator in your home

Wood absorbs moisture from the air and releases it again, helping to keep humidity at a pleasant 40 to 60%. It is antistatic, giving dust and house dust mites less of a chance, and it feels warmer than a tiled floor.

That is why more and more customers consciously choose a wooden floor, or a PVC-free alternative.
